Susquehanna Stage is proud to announce auditions for

Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show.


THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW | By Richard O’Brien

Performance Dates: October 23 - November 1


Auditions Dates:

May 28th and 29th, 2025 from 6:30 to 9:00

at Susquehanna Stage (133 West Market Street Marietta, PA)

Please bring sheet music and prepare a contemporary musical theater song in the style of the show, no longer than a minute. We will provide piano accompaniment as needed, or a rehearsal-track is OK (please bring a device to play your track). No A Capella singing.


Bring a current photo (does not need to be headshot), if you have one, and a performance resume. Keep in mind that conflicts are due at auditions and could affect casting.


Call-backs are TBD as needed.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin at the end of August 2025 and will rehearse generally Sunday-Thursday, 6:30-9:00pm.


AUDITION NOTES:

While the characters themselves may have a designated gender identity, all roles are open to all actors of all gender identities for this production, with the exception of BRAD & JANET. 

1. Language used in the character descriptions is representative of the time in which the musical was written. 

2. The ages listed should be the ages that actors can play/appear on stage; however, only 17+ will be considered for The Rocky Horror Show. 


Character Breakdown

DR. FRANK N. FURTER 

Male Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 30s-50s Range: Baritone D3-G4 A self-indulgent cross-dressing mad scientist/transvestite/master of the castle. He has impeccable comedic timing, an incredibly-forward sense of sexuality, and an irresistible charisma 


BRAD

Male Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 20s-30s Range: Bari-Tenor Bb2-G4 A straight-laced, optimistic, stereotypical All-American man. Until he isn’t. 


JANET 

Female Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 20s-30s Range: Mezzo-Soprano A3-Eb5 A naive, wholesome, stereotypical All-American girl. Until she isn’t. 


RIFF RAFF 

Male Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 20s-50s Range: Rock Tenor D3-B4 Transylvanian brother/lover of Magenta. Disgruntled underling in the castle. A bit creepy. 

Must have strong rock vocals. 


MAGENTA 

Female Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 20s-50s Range: Mezzo-Soprano Bb3-Eb5 Transylvanian sister/lover of Riff-Raff. A maid in the castle. Slightly scary, overtly sexual. 


COLUMBIA 

Female Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 20s-40s Range: Mezzo-Soprano E4-E5 A groupie who falls in love with Eddie. Quirky, lost soul. Must be able to tap dance. 


ROCKY 

Male Identifying Race/Ethnicity 20s-40s Range: Tenor A3-G4 

A tanned and toned creation of Frank’s—his epitome of “the perfect man.”  


EDDIE 

Male Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 30s-50s Range: Baritone F3-F#4 An ill-fated delivery boy with no sense of control or sanity. Emerges from the deep freeze with half his brain and is all rock and roll madness.  


DR. SCOTT 

Male Identifying Any Race/Ethnicity 40s-60s Range: Baritone F3-F#4 Mentor of Brad and Janet who senses trouble in the castle. Strong comedic timing and perhaps a German accent. 


NARRATOR 

Any Gender Any Race/Ethnicity 30s-70s Range: Non-Singing Role 

Speaks directly to the audience in a professional manner. Must be great with improv as this character has direct interaction with a sometimes very vocal audience.  


PHANTOMS 

Any Gender Any Race/Ethnicity 20s-50s Range: SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass: a combination of voices) Ever-present, always lurking inhabitants of The Rocky Horror Show. Various body types and vocal ranges. Must be able to move well.

April 13 and 14, 2025 from 6:00 to 9:00

Please prepare 2 (TWO) Country-Western, Pop, or similar Musical-Comedy Songs.


Please prepare both a ballad AND up-tempo song that best shows your range, age, movement, and talent. Looking for strong singers in folk and bluegrass style. We will provide piano accompaniment if needed, or a rehearsal-track is OK. No A Capella singing.

Call-backs will be scheduled Monday, April 21 in the evening.

Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Monday May 28, and will rehearse generally Sunday-Thursday, 6:30-9:00pm.

Character Breakdown

Alice Murphy – plays both 16-17 and 36-37. Alice at age 36-37 is an editor of a southern literary magazine; intelligent, attractive, professional – but with an air of melancholy. Young Alice at age 16-17 is rebellious, high-spirited, adventurous – looking to break out of small-town life and experience the world. She must be a very strong singer and comfortable in folk and bluegrass styles. (Mezzo-Belt)

Jimmy Ray Dobbs – plays both age 18-20 and 38-40. Jimmy Ray in his early 20s in flashbacks is Mayor Dobbs’ son and young Alice’s beau; handsome, boyishly charming, well-built and intelligent; from a family of wealth and power and is being groomed by his father for a similar future in the family business; an independent thinker who is not afraid to stand up to his father for what he believes in; he has a sense of personal responsibility and morality as well as a deep reserve of passion and emotion. The same actor will also play an adult Jimmy Ray at age 38-40. (Tenor)

Billy Cane – a young soldier returning home from WWII; an aspiring young writer; fresh, open, optimistic, charming, and a little naïve. (Tenor)

Margo Crawford – a small-town bookstore owner; a childhood friend of Billy’s who now harbors romantic feelings towards him; a natural beauty with a keen intellect. (Mezzo-Belt)

Mayor Josiah Dobbs – the Mayor of Zebulon; a political and financial powerbroker – distinguished, an imposing and controlling presence; has a genuine interest in protecting his son’s future and his family name, but in doing so, is ultimately pushed to a point of extreme and irrevocable cruelty. (Baritone)

Daddy Cane – Billy’s father. A widower. Spry, good looking. Kind hearted, if a bit lonely. (Tenor)

Daddy Murphy  – Alice’s father; an authoritative and a stern disciplinarian; devoutly religious, hard-working, a poor but proud farmer. (Baritone)

Mama Murphy/Spirit – Alice’s mother. A caretaker to her family and her rural community. A warm, loving, sensible woman. Hardworking, with great inner strength and compassion. (Alto)

Lucy Grant – A junior editor at a literary magazine. An ambitious, professional young “modern” career woman of the 1940’s. Strong, forthright and provocative with a sharp sense of humor. (Alto)

Daryl Ames – An assistant at a literary magazine. Funny, with a dry and officious sense of humor. Insecure, and perhaps a bit socially awkward, but endearing and innately likable. (Baritone)

Stanford/Traveler  – Loyal assistant to Mayor Josiah Dobbs (Tenor)

Max/Traveler/Stationmaster – a customer at Margo’s bookstore, at first, he has a crush on Margo, but later becomes Edna’s beau. (Tenor)

Florence/Traveler/Spirit  – an employee at Margo’s bookstore and a childhood friend of both Billy and Margo. (Soprano)

Edna/Traveler/Spirit – an employee at Margo’s bookstore. (Alto)

Dr. Norquist/Traveler/Bartender – The local family doctor in Zebulon (Baritone)

Clerk/Traveler/Spirit – A clerk at the Office of Records in Raleigh (Alto)

Well-Dressed Woman/Traveler/Spirit – A woman living in Raleigh. (Soprano)
